THE PLACE A granite cabin for two with solar power, a rainwater tank and eco-conscious fittings and supplies, this is off-the-charts, off-the-grid living. Forget about the ski slopes; this is the other side of alpine adoration, more tactile linen than fluoro fleece. There’s no TV (though there is Wi-Fi); instead, there’s a wood stove inside and a fire pit and barbecue outside, plus an outdoor bath among the snow gums. The furniture is mostly designed and built by the owners using local hardwoods and salvaged cedar; the crockery in the full kitchen is also handmade and interesting, with the coffee brewed in a moka pot rather than via the more-usual pod machine.
